Atletico prepare surprise transfer of Chelsea midfielder

Strengthening the central midfield remains a priority for Atlético Madrid in the summer transfer window, and the club has chosen a rather unconventional option.
According to Relevo, the new target for the Madrid club is Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher. The English player has one year left on his contract with Chelsea, and the club has yet to take steps to extend it.
Gallagher does not want to leave Chelsea, but if there is no progress in contract negotiations, he will be forced to depart. Besides Atlético, Aston Villa, Newcastle, and Tottenham have also expressed interest in him.
The 24-year-old midfielder is a Chelsea academy product but has previously been loaned out to Crystal Palace, Swansea, West Bromwich, and Charlton. In the recently concluded season, Gallagher scored 7 goals and provided 9 assists in 51 matches across all competitions.
This summer, Gallagher was part of the England squad for Euro 2024, where he came on as a substitute in the match against Serbia (1-0).
