Atletico Madrid snatched victory to Rayo Vallecano in extra time

Atlético Madrid hosted Rayo Vallecano in the 20th round of the Spanish La Liga.

The Madrid derby turned out to be resilient and uncompromising, with most of the match played in intense battles. The teams exchanged goals in the first half, with Rayo responding to Reinildo's precise strike with a goal from Alvaro Garcia.

The second half didn't differ much from the first, featuring maximum intensity on the field but minimal scoring opportunities. On the 81st minute, Memphis Depay found the back of the net against the guests, but celebration proved premature as the goal was disallowed due to an offside.

However, Depay persisted and in extra time he finally achieved success. The Dutchman scored a legitimate goal, securing victory for his team in this challenging match.

Atlético reclaimed the third spot in La Liga. Both Diego Simeone's team and Barcelona now have 47 points. Rayo sits in the 13th position.
