Atlas has secured the signing of 23-year-old left-back Jorge Alejandro Rodríguez Hernández ahead of the Apertura 2025 season, according to Mediotiempo. Despite a temporary sanction from FIFA that currently blocks the club from registering new players, the Guadalajara-based side has completed the deal and is now racing to resolve the administrative hurdles required for final registration.

Rodríguez, a native of Guadalajara, joins from Toluca, which owns his contract, although he most recently played for Puebla on loan during the Clausura 2025. He previously featured for Necaxa and has participated in youth national team camps with Mexico.

The left-back has already passed his medical and physical evaluations with Atlas. However, his official unveiling and eligibility to play in Liga MX remain on hold until the FIFA suspension is lifted. The ban stems from unresolved paperwork issues, which the club is currently addressing.

Rodríguez becomes the team’s second defensive signing this window, joining right-back Gustavo Ferrareis from Brazil. Head coach Gonzalo Pineda is clearly aiming to reinforce both flanks, seeking greater defensive consistency after a shaky campaign.

The acquisition of Rodríguez signals a commitment to young talent with top-flight experience. While the club works behind the scenes to clear the registration block, the player is already training with the squad, preparing for a potential debut once clearance is granted.
