Atlanta United Signs Albanian Defender Enea Mihaj Through 2028 Season

Atlanta United has made its first move of the summer by signing Albanian center back Enea Mihaj on a free transfer, the club announced Wednesday. The 26-year-old joins on a deal through the 2028 season, with an option for 2029. He will occupy an international roster spot and become eligible to play starting July 24, pending receipt of his P-1 Visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC).
“We’re pleased to welcome Enea to the club and are looking forward to integrating him into the group ahead of the second half of our season,” said Chris Henderson, Chief Soccer Officer and Sporting Director. “He’s a physical center back and a vocal leader with experience from multiple European leagues.”
Mihaj featured prominently for FC Famalicão in Portugal, starting 81 of his 82 matches across three seasons. He completed the full 90 minutes in 64 Primeira Liga appearances, underlining both his consistency and fitness.
Internationally, Mihaj has earned 19 caps for Albania. Born in Berat, he moved to Greece as a child and rose through Panetolikos’ youth system before signing with PAOK, where he gained European competition experience in the UEFA Conference League.
Known for his clean, direct defending and long passing range, Mihaj fits the tactical blueprint of head coach Ronny Deila, who favors quick transitions and wide switches from the back.
