Atlanta United are close to securing the signing of Albanian international center-back Enea Mihaj, according to GIVEMESPORT. The 26-year-old defender will join as a free agent after his contract with Portuguese club Famalicao expires. He’ll be eligible to debut for Atlanta when the MLS summer transfer window opens on July 24.

Mihaj has earned 19 caps with Albania. He began his club career in Greece, featuring for Panetolikos and later PAOK before making the move to Portugal in 2022. Over three seasons with Famalicao, he tallied 82 appearances.

The center-back appears to be Atlanta’s first signing of the summer and addresses a pressing need in defense. The club has revamped its attack in the past two transfer windows, bringing in designated players Miguel Almiron, Alexey Miranchuk and record-breaking signing Emmanuel Latte Lath.

Despite those investments, Atlanta has struggled in 2025. With just 17 points from 18 matches, the team currently sits 13th in the Eastern Conference, eight points shy of a playoff spot. With ten games remaining after the transfer window reopens, Mihaj is expected to step into the starting lineup and provide much-needed stability at the back.
