Athletics coach previously banned for life over sexual misconduct returns to training
Toni Minichiello, the former coach of British Olympic champion Jessica Ennis-Hill, has returned to coaching despite being handed a “lifetime” ban for sexual misconduct, Daily Mail reports.
Minichiello was banned by UK Athletics in 2022 after an investigation found that he had engaged in inappropriate physical conduct with athletes, including unwanted touching. However, the ban only applies to working with British athletes, meaning he is still allowed to coach abroad.
Now, Minichiello has begun working with Polish heptathlete Adrianna Sułek-Schubert.
"She sent me a text and said, “Can you help me out?”,’ explained Minchiello. ‘I went over (to Poland) for three weeks to advise and support with the expertise and knowledge. She is an adult and is well capable of making her own mind up about where she takes advice and the consequences. I think it will continue. It would be nice to get a contract," Minichiello stated.
The Polish Athletics Association clarified that Sułek-Schubert made the decision to work with Minichiello independently and that they are not funding his coaching.
