One of the UEFA Champions League contenders from the English Premier League at the end of the current season - Aston Villa - announced its financial situation at the end of last season, which ended on 31 May 2023.

On its official website, the club notes that since the change of sporting leadership in October 2022, the first-team performance has improved and resulted in seventh place in the EPL, the best result since 2010.

In the transfer market for the financial year, Aston Villa bought £63.7m worth of players and sold £22m worth. Wage costs also rose from £137m to £194m due to a 9% increase in total headcount. Amortisation of player contracts increased by £10m to £92.5m

The club increased infrastructure investment in the club stadium, Villa Park, to £13.4m, given that the arena will host UEFA Euro 2028 matches.

Villa summarises that the club ended the last financial year with a loss of £119.6m after tax. Before that, Aston Villa had a profit of £0.3m. At the same time, the club notes that these figures are in line with the strategic business plan.
