Aston Villa suffered a 1-0 defeat to Club Brugge in their fourth UEFA Champions League group stage match.

The game’s only goal came courtesy of Hans Vanaken, who converted a penalty. The foul that led to the spot-kick was committed by Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings, who was making his Champions League debut.

Interestingly, Mings became the first English player to concede a penalty in his debut UEFA Champions League match.

The 31-year-old joined the Birmingham-based club in 2019. This was only his second appearance across all competitions this season, highlighting a challenging period for the seasoned defender.
