Aston Villa could face UEFA sanctions. What is the reason?
Aston Villa are currently competing in the Europa League and performing strongly in the Premier League, but the club may once again find themselves in trouble with UEFA.
Details: Journalist Martyn Ziegler of The Times reports that Aston Villa could receive another fine from UEFA due to breaches of financial regulations.
Moreover, the punishment may not be limited to a financial penalty. Additional restrictions could include limitations on transfer activity or even constraints related to their squad registration for European competitions.
Aston Villa have already been officially sanctioned by UEFA and previously paid a €6 million fine.
At present, Aston Villa sit third in the Premier League table with 50 points after 26 rounds, seven points adrift of the leaders.
Reminder: In the Matchday 8 fixture of the Europa League—which had no tournament significance for Aston Villa against Salzburg—the Lions' 30-year-old striker Ollie Watkins was forced to leave the pitch in the 35th minute of the first half due to a hamstring injury.
