Arsenal rejoices. Liverpool and Manchester City fail to determine the stronger team at the Anfield

Liverpool hosted Manchester City at Anfield in the central match of the 28th round of the Premier League, possibly even the entire second round. Both teams needed only a victory, as a draw would leave Arsenal in first place.

Traditionally, Liverpool took to the field with less than an optimal lineup due to numerous injured players.

In the first half, both teams played with equal intensity and sharpness. The visitors had slightly more attacks, but Liverpool also responded with their own attacks. In the 19th minute, Liverpool executed an excellent combination, but Luis Diaz's goal was disallowed for offside.

However, a few minutes later, City scored a legitimate goal. De Bruyne delivered a precise pass to Stones, who put the ball into Kelleher's net.

Early in the second half, Ake made an awkward pass to Ederson, who fouled Nunez. This resulted in a penalty for Liverpool, which was confidently converted by MacAllister.

In the remaining time, both teams attacked vigorously, and each had the chance to claim three points. However, there were no more goals in the packed Anfield. In the 89th minute, Doku had a wonderful opportunity to secure victory for the visitors, but his shot hit the frame of Kelleher's goal.

As a result, with 64 points, Liverpool conceded the top spot to Arsenal due to a better goal difference. Manchester City sits third with 63 points.
