Arsenal is expressing interest in a seasoned defender from Barcelona
Arsenal has manifested interest in the seasoned Barcelona defender, Sergio Roberto, as reported by Sport.es.
According to sources, the Spaniard may transition to the Premier League if the Catalan club does not extend a new contract offer. Arsenal values Sergio Roberto for his experience and versatility. However, the player himself is not currently exploring other options and is awaiting the development of proposals from Barcelona.
A year ago, Barcelona renewed Roberto's contract for one year with the possibility of extending it for another season. Nevertheless, if Sergio does depart, the preference would be to continue his career in Europe, as the defender feels capable of maintaining a high level of performance.
A product of Barcelona's football academy, Sergio Roberto made his debut in senior football in 2009 with appearances for Barcelona B. He joined the main squad in 2011. Currently, he has played 199 matches in the national championship for the Catalan club.
In the 2015/16 season, Sergio Roberto became a key player for Barcelona, participating in a total of 49 matches. During this season, the footballer scored three goals in eight matches for the Catalans. In total, he has amassed 21 goals and 43 assists in 405 matches since 2010.
