His father, American Greg Duplantis, was also a pole vaulter, and his mother, Swedish Helena Duplantis (maiden name Hedlund), was an all-around athlete. Arman has broken several world records at once. On 8 February 2020 in Torun, Poland, he broke the indoor pole vault record (6.17m), which was set by Renaud Lavillenie in 2014, and on 17 September 2020 he broke Sergey Bubka's outdoor pole vault record (6.15m), which had been held since 1994.

After that, Duplantis competes only against himself. At the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, he once again surpassed his own achievement and set an Olympic and world record at 6.25 metres.
