Argentine Clubs Set for Sudamericana Knockouts, Lanús Awaits Possible Derby

The 2025 Copa Sudamericana Round of 16 matchups have been set, and five Argentine clubs remain in contention, according to TyC Sports. Independiente, Lanús, Huracán, and Godoy Cruz have secured their places in the knockout stage, while Central Córdoba still faces a preliminary hurdle before potentially joining them.
After dropping out of the Libertadores, Central Córdoba landed in the Sudamericana as one of the best third-place finishers and will now face Cerro Largo in a playoff. Should they win, a high-stakes all-Argentine clash against Lanús awaits in the Round of 16.
Elsewhere, Independiente will meet the winner of Universidad de Chile vs. Guaraní, while Huracán is set to take on either San Antonio Bulo Bulo or Once Caldas. Godoy Cruz will be paired with whoever advances between Bucaramanga and Atlético Mineiro, making for a challenging road ahead.
The bracket also features Universidad Católica set to face either Alianza Lima or Gremio, Cienciano to play against Bolívar or Palestino, and Fluminense matched with either Bahía or América de Cali. Meanwhile, Mushuc Runa will go up against the winner between Independiente del Valle and Vasco da Gama.
First-leg fixtures are scheduled for Wednesday, August 13, with return legs to be played one week later, on August 20. With five Argentine teams already in and a sixth on the brink, expectations are high as the competition enters its decisive stretch.
