Argentina U-17 Team Call Up German Wonderkid
Argentina’s U-17 national team coach Diego Placente has named his squad for upcoming tournaments, and one name stood out: Can Armando Güner, a 17-year-old left-footed winger from Borussia Mönchengladbach who has already represented Germany at youth level.
Born on January 7, 2008, in Schwafheim, Germany, near the Dutch border, Güner brings a multicultural background. His mother is German-Argentine, his grandmother is from Argentina, and his father is of Turkish descent. Though he played for Germany’s U-16 and U-17 sides, his Argentine roots allow him to join the Albiceleste’s setup.
Güner recently led Borussia Mönchengladbach to the U-17 Bundesliga title and is under contract with the German club until July 2026. Known for his versatility and technical skills, he can play both as a winger and attacking midfielder.
He will now train with Argentina from Monday to Friday at the Lionel Messi complex in Ezeiza as the team gears up for the 2025 COTIF tournament in L'Alcudia (starting July 19) and the U-17 World Cup in Qatar, set for November. Argentina shares Group B in Spain with Chile, youth academy ADH Brazil and Valencia.
