Arabic Club Surprises in Top 10 for Football Transfer Spending, Manchester United Leads the Way
A recent study shows that football clubs have spent a huge amount of money over the past ten years, with Manchester United leading the way. The CIES Football Observatory says that since 2015, United has spent an amazing 1.3 billion euros on buying players, more than any other club.
Chelsea is next, having spent 1.2 billion euros, followed by Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal, which spent 991 million euros and 795 million euros, respectively. Tottenham Hotspur is in fifth place with a total of 711 million euros spent.
Manchester City is in sixth place, having invested 703 million euros, while AC Milan (633 million euros), Newcastle United (626 million euros), and Barcelona (601 million euros) complete the top 10.
Al Hilal’s huge influence in Saudi Arabia, spending €556m to outstrip European giants such as Liverpool’s €366m in the same period, is a big surprise. As the Saudi Professional League continues to expand its footprint in international football, this represents a major improvement for the league.
