Monza's head coach, Raffaele Palladino, has announced that the appeal regarding the suspension of attacking midfielder Papu Gomez has been dismissed. The Argentine player has been banned for two years due to a doping violation.

"Any updates on Papu? As far as I know, the appeal has been rejected. The club will make an official announcement soon," quoted Palladino as reported by Football Italia.

To recap, a substance to alleviate bronchospasm was found in the player's analysis in October 2022 when he was playing for Sevilla. The 36-year-old midfielder claims to have taken a children's cough syrup without consulting the club doctor.

In the summer, Papu Gomez terminated his contract with Sevilla, and at the end of September, he joined Monza as a free agent. Since joining the new club, he has only participated in two matches.

Papu Gomez was part of the Argentine national team during the triumphant 2022 World Cup.
