The Senegalese defender was injured during the Ligue 1 match between Nice and Le Mans.

Whilst Nice drew 1-1 at the Allianz Riviera, Antoine Mendy suffered a knee injury after landing awkwardly. Having come on in the second half, the Senegalese player finished the match with pain in his knee.

Subsequent medical examinations revealed a cruciate ligament tear. A few days after sustaining the injury, Antoine Mendy therefore underwent surgery. OGC Nice announced the success of the operation in a statement published on its social media channels.

“Having suffered a cruciate ligament tear against Le Mans on 5 September, Antoine Mendy underwent successful surgery this week. OGC Nice is once again offering its full support to Antoine and will do its utmost to support him at every stage of his recovery, right through to his return to the pitch.”

The Senegalese defender is now embarking on a lengthy recovery period. He is expected to be sidelined for several months, whilst the French club will have to cope without one of its key defenders.
