Anthony Martial wants to leave Manchester United this winter
Anthony Martial is set to depart Manchester United as a free agent in the summer if the club fails to sell him in January, as reported by The Athletic.
Manchester United has no intention of extending its collaboration with the forward Anthony Martial. Manchester United has got the option to renew the contract with the French player when it expires next summer, but he will not avail of this opportunity, according to a source.
If Manchester United cannot sell Martial in the winter transfer window, it plans to release him as a free agent next year.
During the summer transfer window of 2015, several English clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, and Arsenal, expressed interest in Martial. However, on the final day of the transfer window, September 1, 2015, Martial joined Manchester United. The transfer fee amounted to £36 million, a world record for a player under 20 years old.
On January 31, 2019, Martial signed a new five-year contract with Manchester United. However, on January 25, 2022, he went on loan to the Spanish club Sevilla until the end of the 2021/22 season. During his time at the Spanish club, he scored only one goal in 12 matches of the season.
