Anthony Joshua Pays Emotional Tribute as Close Friends Killed in Car Crash Are Laid to Rest
Anthony Joshua has paid his final respects to two close friends who tragically lost their lives in a devastating car accident, as mourners gathered on Sunday to say their goodbyes.
Sina Ghami and Latif “Latz” Ayodele were killed last Monday when the vehicle they were travelling in, alongside Joshua, collided with a stationary truck on a major road near Lagos. Joshua was rushed to the hospital following the crash but was discharged on Wednesday before returning to the UK in time for the funerals.
Ghami served as Joshua’s strength and conditioning coach, while Ayodele was one of his trainers and a long-time confidant. Both men played important roles in the former two-time unified heavyweight world champion’s professional and personal life.
On Sunday, Joshua shared an emotional Instagram post featuring two photos of himself seated beside his mother and three other women. One of the women held a photograph of Ghami, symbolising the deep sense of loss felt by those closest to him. Joshua captioned the post simply but powerfully: “My Brother’s Keeper.”
The funeral proceedings began with prayers at the London Central Mosque earlier in the day. The coffins of Ghami and Ayodele were placed side by side as the Janazah—the Islamic funeral prayer—was conducted.
Hundreds of mourners gathered outside the mosque gates to pay their respects, reflecting the impact both men had on the community. Following the prayers, the coffins were taken to a nearby crematorium for the funeral service.
A wake was held later in the afternoon, allowing friends, family, and supporters to come together in remembrance and celebration of the lives of two men taken far too soon.
