Tonight at the "Kingdom Arena" in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, one of the premier boxing events of the year unfolded. Former heavyweight world champion from Britain, Anthony Joshua (28-3), faced off in the ring against former UFC heavyweight champion, Cameroonian Francis Ngannou (0-2 in boxing). Joshua knocked out his opponent in the second round.

After the bout, the Briton stated:

"I was on my way to the title, and I had to take a detour for this fight. When I saw his performance against Fury, I thought, 'Yes, this guy can fight.' He's an excellent fighter with an inspiring story, but in boxing, there's only one winner. Ngannou may have another go in the ring."

Later, he added:

"Francis Ngannou defeated the WBC world champion. So now, I must become the world champion, right now."

Joshua referred to Ngannou's bout against WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury, where the judges awarded the victory to the Briton, although many disputes this decision.

Ngannou himself made a post on his Instagram page after the fight, captioned:

"Sorry guys, I let you all down. Today was a bad day in the ring, but tomorrow will be a new one. Thank you all for the love and support."

Following this, during an interview with MMAJunkie, he added:

"He [Anthony Joshua] is truly special because he managed to defeat me. He achieved what Tyson Fury couldn't. It wasn't my day. Simply put, today he was much better than me. It's sad to accept, but that's how it is.

Right now, I'm going to return home, take a little rest, and think about what happened. As you know, I had an incredible day from this morning. I have to consider my next steps that need to be taken. However, perhaps I'll return to MMA, but don't worry, I'm not done here yet. As for the knockout blow, I didn't feel it. In my opinion, that's the essence of a knockout."

It's worth noting that after Joshua's knockout, the Cameroonian fighter required assistance from medical professionals, who utilized an oxygen mask.
