Key central midfielder for Atalanta and the Netherlands national team, Teun Koopmeiners, will officially miss the UEFA Euro 2024 tournament.

Koopmeiners felt discomfort in his groin during the warm-up before yesterday's friendly match against Iceland, leading to his replacement in the starting lineup by Jerdy Schouten.

A medical examination revealed that the 26-year-old footballer would require around a month to recover. This timeframe rules out any possibility of his participation in Euro 2024.

Previously, the Netherlands national team also lost two other key central midfielders, Marten de Roon and Frenkie de Jong.

In the recently concluded season, Koopmeiners played 51 matches across all competitions, scoring 15 goals and providing 7 assists.

He also helped Atalanta win their first-ever Europa League trophy.

The Netherlands will play their first match of Euro 2024 on June 16 against Poland. Ronald Koeman's team will also face France and Austria in the group stage.
