Another blow! Liverpool star injured in Nations League match
The Netherlands suffered an unpleasant setback in the second round of the UEFA Nations League. Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo picked up an injury against Serbia and was forced to leave the field.
The incident occurred during the first half, when the footballer indicated to the coaching staff that he could no longer continue. Gakpo requested a substitution, with Ruben van Bommel coming on in his place. The exact recovery timeline for the Dutchman is not yet known — the nature and severity of the injury will be determined after a medical examination.
It is worth noting that the international break had been particularly impressive for Gakpo. In the very first round of the Nations League, the forward scored against Germany, emerging as one of his team’s standout players. Now, however, his participation in the Netherlands’ upcoming matches is in doubt.
Gakpo’s injury is another worrying signal for Liverpool, who have already lost Alexander Isak to injury. The Dutchman has also joined a sizeable list of players who have picked up injuries during the current international window. The list already includes Kylian Mbappé, Jamal Musiala, Kai Havertz, Brian Brobbey, Daniel Ballard and Eric Garcia.
