Today, the names of six contenders for the Laureus World Sports Awards were revealed. This award is presented annually to the best athlete of the year.
In 2024, the nominees are
- Novak Djokovic – Tennis
- Lionel Messi – Football
- Erling Haaland – Football
- Max Verstappen – Formula 1
- Mondo Duplantis – Athletics (Pole Vault)
- Noah Lyles – Athletics (Sprints)
In 2023, Lionel Messi won the Laureus Award, in 2022 it was Max Verstappen, and in 2021, Rafael Nadal received the honor.
The record holder for the most Laureus Awards is Roger Federer, who has won it four times.
