An American boxer was shot dead just weeks before his fight

On 26 October, American welterweight boxer Milik Birdsong (15-1-1, 10 KOs) was supposed to fight Armenian Gor Yeritsyan, but the fight will not take place. The 31-year-old American boxer was the victim of an armed assault.

According to Boxing Scene, the shooting happened in Los Angeles around 16:50 local time. Birdsong near his home was standing near the car in which his girlfriend was sitting. Another car approached the car, from which the shooting started and Birdsong was the victim. He was fired upon and as a result of his wounds the boxer died in hospital.

Doctors removed seven bullets from Birdsong's body and the suspects fled the scene. The incident is now being handled by the police.

The 31-year-old American had his last fight on 23 March 2024 against compatriot Jerry Bradford (9-3-0, 5 KOs), defeating his opponent by split decision.
