Amir Abdou reveals his ambitions for the Burkina Faso national team
The Comorian tactician was officially presented this Thursday as the new coach of the Etalons.
Appointed coach of the Burkina Faso national team on 1 March, Amir Abdou officially took up his post on 5 March 2026. The announcement was made during a press conference held at the headquarters of the Burkina Faso Football Federation in Ouagadougou.
During his presentation, the Comorian coach expressed his admiration for the Burkina Faso team. For him, Burkina Faso is a great football nation brimming with talent. With these qualities, Amir Abdou wants to bring Burkina Faso into the big league of African football.
Burkina Faso is a great football nation. The team has already reached the semi-finals several times in Africa and there are many quality players. The goals may be ambitious, but anything is possible. I discussed this with the president of the FBF: with the quality of its players, this team should be among the top eight in Africa. We must also continue to seek out dual nationals, without forgetting local players, and there are also many players who are leaving the national championship to make their mark abroad. The people are demanding. They need results. I am a competitor and I will give my all to ensure that the people are satisfied.
The Burkina Faso Football Federation has set clear objectives for Amir Abdou. The new coach of the Etalons must rebuild the team, take it as far as possible in the next Africa Cup of Nations and get the Etalons into the African top 10. Amir Abdou has signed a two-year contract.
