América’s Shocking First: No Goals Scored in a Liga MX Final Series América’s Shocking First: No Goals Scored in a Liga MX Final Series

Club América suffered an unprecedented blow on Sunday night. According to Mediotiempo, the storied club failed to score in both legs of the Liga MX Clausura 2025 Final against Toluca, marking the first time in its 108-year history that it ended a league final goalless.

Under the guidance of André Jardine and with one of the most potent attacks in Mexico, América couldn’t find a way past Antonio Mohamed’s disciplined Toluca side. Across 180 minutes, the defending champions looked uncharacteristically blunt, a stark contrast to their dominant final track record.

Before this series, América had scored 67 goals across 21 league finals—more than any other team. Their most prolific performance came in 2005, when they lifted the title after a 7–4 aggregate win over Tecos. They entered this final with 15 championships and just 6 defeats in such series.

But history didn’t repeat itself. Toluca claimed a 2–0 aggregate victory and ended América’s bid for a fourth straight title. For a team used to leaving its mark on every final, this quiet exit will sting for a long time.
