América Face Cruz Azul in Semifinal Clash Fueled by Revenge

Defending Liga MX champions Club América visit Cruz Azul this Thursday in the first leg of the Clausura 2025 semifinals, with a sense of revenge hanging in the air. As reported by EFE, América seek redemption after being knocked out by Cruz Azul in the Concacaf Champions Cup last month, adding more intensity to an already fierce rivalry.
Though André Jardine’s América have dominated the domestic scene with three straight league titles, Cruz Azul have had the upper hand in recent meetings. They’ve gone unbeaten in their last three matchups, including a 1–0 win in continental competition and a scoreless league draw in April.
Led by Ángel Sepúlveda, Ignacio Rivero, and Rodolfo Rotondi, Cruz Azul aim to take advantage at home, while América rely on the league’s best defense and an attacking unit featuring Alejandro Zendejas, Henry Martín, Álvaro Fidalgo, and Víctor Dávila.
With a better regular-season finish, América hold the tiebreaker if the aggregate score is level, but Jardine’s squad plan to control the match and push for a win ahead of Sunday’s decisive leg at home.
The series winner will face either Toluca or Tigres UANL in the final.
