The fourth day of the final Grand Slam tournament of the year, the US Open, ended with an absolutely shocking result. The third-ranked player in the world, Carlos Alcaraz, was eliminated from the competition in the second round.

In a stunning upset, the Spaniard lost in straight sets to 28-year-old Dutchman Botic van de Zandschulp, who is ranked only 74th in the world.

What was most surprising is that Alcaraz failed to win a single set. He lost the first set 1-6, conceding two of his service games. Throughout the match, Alcaraz managed to convert only two break points. Van de Zandschulp took the second set 7-5 and secured the third set 6-4.

It's worth noting that Alcaraz is the reigning champion of both the French Open and Wimbledon.

At the 2023 US Open, Alcaraz reached the semifinals, where he was defeated by Daniil Medvedev. However, in 2022, the young Spaniard won the US Open title.

In the third round of this year's tournament, van de Zandschulp will face British player Jack Draper.
