All New Records Set by Osimhen in Galatasaray’s Champions League Win

Victor Osimhen delivered a sensational performance in Amsterdam on Wednesday night, scoring a hat-trick to lead Galatasaray to a 3–0 victory over Ajax in the Champions League.

The Nigerian forward, who missed the opening group match against Eintracht Frankfurt, has now scored in all three of his Champions League appearances this season. His brilliance not only sealed Galatasaray’s best-ever start in the competition but also saw him shatter multiple club and national records.

Osimhen opened the scoring just before the hour mark with a precise header from a Leroy Sané cross. He doubled the lead minutes later from the penalty spot after a VAR review confirmed a handball, before converting a second penalty to complete his hat-trick.

His treble takes him to six goals this season in the Champions League — more than any other player. It also makes him the first Galatasaray player to score a hat-trick in the competition since Burak Yılmaz in 2012 and the first ever to net in three consecutive Champions League matches for the Turkish side.

The win lifted Galatasaray to nine points, ahead of heavyweights like Chelsea, Barcelona, and Dortmund. The win also makes the Nigerian striker the first Galatasaray player to net a back-to-back brace in the UEFA Champions League.

Beyond that, Osimhen’s feat took his total to 25 goals in UEFA competitions, surpassing Obafemi Martins (23) to become Nigeria’s all-time top scorer in Europe. He now has 15 Champions League goals — the highest by any Nigerian — and joins Yakubu Aiyegbeni as only the second Nigerian to score a hat-trick in the tournament.

Since joining Galatasaray, Osimhen has scored 46 goals in 50 matches. He will look to extend his record when Galatasaray face Union Saint-Gilloise on November 25.
