Algerian boxer Ilham Khélif has filed a police report in Paris following threats she received
Algerian boxer and Olympic champion Imane Khelif has filed a police report in Paris, according to NBC News.
Her lawyer stated that Khélif made the report following criticism and false claims about her gender during the Olympics. He described the situation as a "misogynistic, racist, and sexist campaign" against the athlete. Prosecutors will need to decide whether to initiate an investigation.
Under French law, the complaint does not specify an alleged perpetrator, leaving it to investigators to determine who may be responsible.
In the Round of 16, Khélif defeated Angela Carini, who opted to withdraw from the match after a particularly significant blow. This led to discussions online regarding Khélif's gender.
It should be noted that the U.S. Olympic Committee will appeal the decision of the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
