Algeria Head Coach Vladimir Petković Set to Leave After 2026 FIFA World Cup Exit

Algeria head coach Vladimir Petković is reportedly set to step down from his role with the Desert Foxes following the country's exit from the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The experienced Bosnian manager is understood to have informed members of his coaching staff that he will not continue as Algeria's head coach, bringing an end to his spell in charge after less than three years.

According to beIN Sports Arabic, Petković's decision comes just weeks after Algeria's World Cup campaign ended with a 2-0 defeat to Switzerland in the Round of 32.

The report was first revealed by Algerian journalist Mohamed Louadahi, who stated that Petković had privately told his backroom staff that his time with the national team had come to an end.

Louadahi also reported that the separation is expected to be completed by mutual agreement between Petković and the Algerian Football Federation, with an official announcement anticipated in the coming days.

Petković was appointed Algeria's head coach in February 2024, taking over with the task of rebuilding the national team and restoring them among Africa's elite.

During his time in charge, the 62-year-old oversaw 39 matches, recording 24 victories, nine draws and six defeats.
