German coach Alexander Blessin is on the verge of being appointed head coach of Borussia Mönchengladbach. The club and the 53-year-old manager have reached a verbal agreement, with the two sides now ironing out the final details of the deal.

Details: According to Sky Sport Germany, Borussia Mönchengladbach are set to appoint Alexander Blessin as their new head coach in the near future. The disastrous start to the Bundesliga season prompted the urgent change in the dugout. The team suffered four defeats in their opening four matches, with a horrific goal difference of 6:16, and are stuck at the bottom of the table.

Eugen Polanski's dismissal was triggered by the 4-3 defeat to Mainz. The club's sporting director, Rouven Schröder, confirmed that a verbal agreement with the new coach had already been reached, while BILD and Bulinews identified Blessin as the frontrunner. He has been without a job since leaving St. Pauli.

The official announcement of his appointment is expected within the week. The club's hierarchy hope the experienced coach can shore up the team's defense and prepare them for the upcoming derby against Cologne.
