Alex Iwobi Reveals He Changed His Hairstyle After Lionel Messi Humiliated Him

Fulham midfielder Alex Iwobi has jokingly recalled one of the most embarrassing moments of his early career, revealing that facing Lionel Messi during his Champions League debut even prompted him to change his hairstyle.

Iwobi was speaking on the Beast Mode podcast when he reflected on his first appearance in Europe's premier club competition during his time at Arsenal.

His Champions League debut came against Barcelona, where he found himself up against the famous MSN attacking trio of Lionel Messi, Luis Suárez and Neymar.

Iwobi admitted that while many of his teammates were hesitant to challenge Messi, he decided to take the Argentine superstar on himself.

Iwobi: "My Champions League debut was against Barcelona’s MSN - Messi, Suárez, Neymar.

Everyone was scared to tackle Messi, so I thought, ‘I’ll do it.’ His first touch sent me flying. That dribble is still all over YouTube, and I even changed my hairstyle since then so people wouldn’t recognise me."
