On Thursday, October 10, the first quarterfinal matches took place at the tennis tournament in China. Jannik Sinner faced Medvedev, while Carlos Alcaraz played against Tomas Machac.
The Italian player had no trouble defeating the world No. 5. Sinner won the first set in just 26 minutes, finishing with a score of 6-1. The second set was more competitive but still went in favor of the world No. 1, who took it 6-4.
The main upset occurred in the other quarterfinal match. Carlos Alcaraz, the clear favorite against Czech Tomas Machac, was unable to deliver. Machac took the first set in a tiebreak, winning 7-6 (7-5).
The second set was equally challenging and intriguing. Alcaraz fought back from 1-3 to take a 4-3 lead. However, the Czech player kept his composure and managed to turn the set around, winning it 7-5. As a result, the world No. 2 was eliminated after losing 0-2.
Consequently, in the semifinals of the tournament, world No. 1 Jannik Sinner will face Czech Tomas Machac.
