Alcaraz and Zverev's first words after the Roland Garros 2024 final
On June 9, the final match of the French Open 2024 men's singles tennis tournament took place.
In the duel for the title, Spanish tennis player and world No. 3 Carlos Alcaraz defeated German representative Alexander Zverev (ATP 4) in five sets with the score 3:6, 6:2, 7:5, 1:6, 2:6.
After the end of the meeting there was an award ceremony, where Carlos and Alexander shared their first emotions:
Carlos Alcaraz:
"I know everything you (Zverev) have been going through in the last few years because of the injury on this court. The work you did to get to the final was unbelievable. I'm pretty sure you'll have a chance to win this tournament very soon.
For my team, the last month has been an incredible job. We've been struggling a lot with injury. Coming back to Madrid I didn't feel well, in the following weeks we had a lot of doubts. To come here without practicing many hours on the court... I'm very grateful to have a team like this. The people that surround me. I know that everybody on my team is giving their heart just for me to improve as a player and a person, for me to grow. I'm very grateful. I call you guys a team, but it's a family. My dad, my mom, my brothers...there's a lot of family members there.
It's amazing to me that you support me here. When you're not at the tournament, I know you support me on TV at home. All the support you have given me since I was a kid has been amazing. After high school, I turned on the TV to watch this tournament on TV - now I'm lifting the trophy in front of your eyes. Thank you for everything,” Alcaraz said.
Alexander Zverev:
"First of all, congratulations to Carlos. A third Grand Slam title at the age of 21 is unbelievable. You won on three different surfaces.
It's already an amazing career. You're already in the Hall of Fame. Incredible player. It won't be the last time you win a title,” Zverev said.
