Deportivo Alavés has extended a contract renewal offer to head coach Eduardo Coudet and is expecting a response “within the next few hours,” according to EFE. The Argentine manager secured LaLiga safety for the club, finishing 15th, just two points above the relegation zone.
Speaking at a media breakfast, sporting director Sergio Fernández praised Coudet for achieving the season’s objective. Despite criticism from segments of the fanbase—including chants in support of former coach Luis García—Fernández emphasized that Coudet was brought in to deliver results and has done so.
Fernández also addressed the toll the season has taken on him personally. “It’s very hard for me to continue at this club,” he admitted, though he reaffirmed his loyalty to owner Josean Querejeta and the club’s vision.
Pleased with the team’s overall performance, Fernández noted, “We’ve delivered, and I wonder what exactly we did wrong.” He also criticized what he saw as unjustified hostility from some supporters. The decision from Coudet could arrive soon, marking a pivotal moment in the club’s planning for next season.
