The French national team is facing personnel issues in the defensive line right on the eve of their departure for the World Cup.
Details: According to L'Équipe, 27-year-old right-back Jules Koundé sustained a muscle injury during the final friendly match against Northern Ireland (3-1). He started the game but was unable to return for the second half. It was later revealed that Malo Gusto’s appearance immediately after the break was not a tactical move by Didier Deschamps—Koundé himself requested a substitution due to sudden muscle pain.
However, the medical staff of Les Bleus quickly reassured fans: 48 hours after the match, there is no serious concern regarding the defender’s health. The injury appears to be minor, and the early substitution against Northern Ireland helped prevent a more serious recurrence.
There are exactly six days left until France’s first official match at the World Cup in the USA, and Jules has a good chance to make a full recovery before the start of the group stage.
Reminder: Tensions are running high in the French squad. Kylian Mbappé’s departure from the French camp sparked a wave of criticism.
