Al Ahly Stand by José Riveiro Despite Club World Cup Blow

Al Ahly have confirmed they are sticking with head coach José Riveiro despite Thursday night’s 2-0 loss to Palmeiras in the Club World Cup group stage.

What's the Situation?

After two underwhelming results — a draw with Inter Miami and the defeat to Palmeiras — the Spanish coach has come under fire from fans and pundits alike. Critics have questioned the team's slow tempo, lack of cutting edge, and unclear attacking plan.

Board’s Response

However, according to Kooora, the club’s hierarchy remains calm. An internal source was quoted:

“Riveiro is staying. It’s not logical to judge a coach after two official matches.”

A Long-Term Vision

Al Ahly’s management stressed that Riveiro was hired for a long-term project, not short-term fixes. While they acknowledged the supporters’ frustration, they reaffirmed that any evaluations will only be made at the end of the season.

The record African champions will now face FC Porto in their final group match, with hopes of a strong finish to their Club World Cup campaign.
