Al Ahly Sends Strong Message with Record-Setting Win in Egyptian League Opener
Al Ahly opened their Egyptian Premier League title defense in style, defeating Ceramica Cleopatra 5-2 in a record-breaking display on Saturday. This is Al Ahly’s largest-ever win over Ceramica Cleopatra, underlining their dominance in the head-to-head series.
The game at Cairo’s Al Salam Stadium saw Al Ahly take an early lead with Hussein El Shahat scoring in the fourth minute. Ceramica Cleopatra equalized in the 24th minute with a penalty from Ahmed Belhadj, but Al Ahly responded decisively. Wissam Abou Ali scored twice in rapid succession in the 48th and 49th minutes, followed by a second goal from El Shahat in the 60th. Taher Mohamed Taher then added the fifth in the 69th minute, while Ceramica scored a consolation goal in the 82nd minute.
This victory places Al Ahly alongside other top-ranked teams—Zamalek, Al Masry, Smouha, and Al Ittihad—in a promising start to the league season.
