Al Ahly is considering not playing in the CAF Confederation Cup if it fails to qualify for the Champions League
The Egyptian giants reportedly believe this competition is not on a par with the club.
Al Ahly is struggling this season in the Egyptian Premier League. The most successful club in the CAF Champions League is currently third in the league, which concludes on 20 May.
Whilst two Egyptian clubs could secure their places in the 2026–2027 Champions League, Al Ahly could miss out on a spot in the continent’s most prestigious club competition if they finish this season in third place in the Egyptian league. This would qualify them for the Confederation Cup.
Faced with this possibility, the Red Devils are considering not taking part in the CAF Confederation Cup, according to journalist Mohamed Shabana. Al Ahly believes that this competition is neither on a par with nor worthy of the club’s prestige.
