Al Ahly Given Recovery Day as Riveiro Prioritizes Fresh Legs for Club World Cup Opener
As the Cairo team makes last-minute preparations for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Al Ahly head coach José Riveiro has given his players a well-earned day off from training on Tuesday.
Recovery Over Volume
Riveiro has decided to put player recuperation first in order to control fatigue before the team's pivotal Group A opening against Inter Miami on June 15 following a run of rigorous training sessions and a recent friendly match against Pachuca (Mexico) in Miami.
“We’re focused on balancing physical readiness and tactical sharpness, The goal is to be fully energized for a high-stakes debut.” a source close to the coaching staff confirmed.
A Group of Giants
Al Ahly has been drawn into a power-packed Group A, which includes:
- Inter Miami (Host team, USA)
- FC Porto (Portugal)
- Palmeiras (Brazil)
It’s a challenging lineup featuring continental champions and global stars, and Riveiro knows his side must be at their tactical best from the first whistle.
Eyes on Progress
Al Ahly's committed to putting up strong title campaign this year after finishing in 3rd place in multiple prior seasons. Prior to the international match, the team's closed camp in Miami's seen to be essential for cohesiveness & team camaraderie.
With the break now behind them, training will resume Wednesday, with tactical drills and match simulations on the agenda.
