Al Ahly Fall to Palmeiras in Club World Cup But Riveiro Still Believes

Al Ahly suffered their first defeat under José Riveiro, falling 2-0 to Palmeiras in their second match of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. A frustrating result, but not the end of the road, according to the Spanish coach.
Riveiro’s reaction
“The first half was balanced. But in the second, we made two mistakes in a row - a poorly managed free-kick and a transition we couldn’t stop. After that, we couldn’t recover control.”
A Wessam Abou Ali own goal and a finish from José Manuel Lopez sealed victory for the Brazilian side. Despite the setback, Riveiro remains optimistic:
“As long as we’re not mathematically out, we’ll keep believing. Our mission is clear—beat Porto and keep the journey going.”
