Al Ahly played out an incredible 4–4 draw with Porto in their final Club World Cup group-stage match, but it wasn’t enough to secure a place in the knockout rounds.
Rumors have since emerged suggesting that the Egyptian side’s head coach could be shown the door.
Details: According to Sport El-Watan, such a scenario isn’t currently under consideration. The club’s management believes that sacking José Ribeiro would be a major administrative misstep. Journalist Ahmed Shobeir also stressed that it would be unacceptable to dismiss a coach after just three matches. The Club World Cup, he noted, is a competition of a different caliber.
He added that comparing Al Ahly to Saudi side Al Hilal is misplaced, as the latter boasts players of truly world-class quality—Simone Inzaghi knew all of them well before the tournament even began.
Reminder: The final matches of Group A in the third round of the Club World Cup were played in the early hours of Tuesday, June 24. The identities of two more knockout-stage participants have now been confirmed.
