Al Ahly Coach Hunt Continues as Gomes Reaffirms Saudi Commitment

After claims surfaced that he might be the team's manager for the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup in the United States, Portuguese coach Jose Gomes finally responded to the mounting rumors that he was considering the managerial role at Al Ahly SC.
Strong Candidate Due to Egyptian Experience
Gomes, who previously guided Zamalek SC to the CAF Confederation Cup and CAF Super Cup victories in 2024, is largely regarded as a good prospect for the Al Ahly position due to his extensive familiarity with Egyptian football.
Gomes Responds to Rumors
Speaking in a televised interview with MBC Action, the current Al Fateh manager dismissed immediate talks of a switch:
“I still have a contract with Al Fateh and I fully respect it. My focus is solely on our goals here. I'm not thinking about any other offers or destinations at the moment,” he said.
Future Possibilities Not Ruled Out
While maintaining his loyalty to the Saudi club, Gomes left the door slightly open for future possibilities:
“In football, anything is possible. But now is not the right time to discuss it.”
Al Ahly’s Search for a Permanent Coach Continues
Al Ahly are still seeking a permanent replacement for Marcel Koller, who left earlier this year. Club legend Emad El Nahhas has taken over on an interim basis and currently has the team top of the Egyptian Premier League standings.
