Akwa Ibom Unveils New Sports Equipment and Modern Gym

The Akwa Ibom Government has procured world-class sports equipment to boost athletic development in the state.

Speaking at a ceremony in Uyo, the Commissioner for Sports, Paul Bassey, said some items were sourced from outside the country. The equipment includes racing bicycles, weightlifting bars, table tennis boards, boxing headgears, dumbbells, tennis and squash rackets.

The state also inaugurated a modern gymnasium called “Ibom Gym.”

Bassey said the new facilities would help athletes prepare for competitions, noting: “For several years, our athletes have struggled to access the basic equipment…”

He added, “These equipment and gymnasium will significantly enhance our athletes’ stamina…”

Dr Iniobong Essien urged athletes to use the facilities and win laurels for the state.
