Agreement close. Players’ union signs memorandum with UEFA
Amid growing concerns over FIFA’s disregard for player voices, UEFA has chosen a collaborative approach, aiming to work with players rather than opposing them.
Details: The European footballers’ union, FIFPRO Europe, has announced a memorandum of understanding with UEFA. According to the press release, UEFA has committed to involving union representatives in any decision-making process affecting player working conditions or issues impacting player workload.
Starting in May 2025, FIFPRO Europe representatives will join UEFA’s executive committee. Additionally, UEFA will establish a Professional Players’ Advisory Forum in November 2024 to address collective player concerns.
«The three-year memorandum enables players and unions to exert greater influence over key decisions affecting their working lives, including changes to the match calendar, playing conditions, and health and safety issues╗.
Reminder: FIFA’s plans for a new Club World Cup sparked discontent among players, with Ballon d’Or winner Rodri previously suggesting the possibility of a player protest.
