After the Stallions' Argentina trip controversy, Captain Ibrahim Traoré promises changes to Burkinabe football
Burkinabe football could be entering a new era marked by government intervention.
The president of Burkina Faso, Captain Ibrahim Traoré, has announced a reorganisation of the sector following the difficulties encountered during the national team’s trip to Argentina for a friendly. The Stallions’ trip to face the Albiceleste last week was marred by a series of setbacks.
After their flight was cancelled and they were stranded in Morocco, the national team players ultimately did not make the journey to play the match. It was the U23s who represented Burkina Faso against Argentina, suffering a heavy defeat (7–0).
Following this incident, captain Ibrahim Traoré announced decisions regarding the organisation of national football. He believes that reform is necessary before considering further investment in the sector.
“Our football is in a bad way and we are going to find solutions. Before investing, we must first address the root of the problem. This week, we will have important decisions to make to ensure everything moves forward. New developments are on the horizon.”
