After a Nine-Match Winless Run: Enyimba FC Parts Ways with Head Coach Yemi Olanrewaju
After a worrying run of nine games without a win, Enyimba FC, Nigeria's most successful football team, fired head coach Yemi Olanrewaju. The club thanked Olanrewaju for his achievements during his brief term and confirmed the news in a brief statement posted on social media.
“Enyimba FC can confirm that it has parted ways with head coach Yemi Olanrewaju. The club thanks Coach Olanrewaju for his services and wishes him the best in his future endeavors,” the statement read.
Olanrewaju, who was appointed just seven months ago, struggled to turn around the club’s fortunes. Including a miserable run of seven draws, Enyimba has lost their past nine games in all competitions. Even though the team has dominated a number of games, they have failed to turn their play into wins, which has left them in crisis and far out of the running for the title.
Enyimba’s poor performance in continental competitions has made things worse, as they are currently last in Group D of the CAF Confederations Cup. In the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), they are also struggling, sitting in 11th place with only 23 points from 15 games.
Two days after the team's most recent NPFL game ended in a draw with Plateau United, Olanrewaju was fired, which increased the strain on the club's supporters and management. Enyimba must now turn things around and get their season back on track under a new coach before they play a crucial home game against Bendel Insurance. The appointment of a new manager is eagerly anticipated by supporters, who hope it will improve the club.
