After 12 years. Formula 1 set to return to an Asian nation
The Korean Grand Prix could make its way back onto the Formula 1 calendar as early as 2028. Authorities in Incheon are actively developing a project to host the event, which, according to preliminary estimates, has been deemed economically viable.
Incheon mayor Yoo Jeong-bok announced that a special commission will soon be established to conduct a thorough analysis of the prospects for bringing the race back. Should the evaluation be favorable, construction of a new circuit will commence in the city.
The circuit is expected to be a street-style track, set within Songdo Moonlight Festival Park. Initial plans suggest a length of around 4.96 kilometers, featuring 15 turns, with F1 cars potentially reaching top speeds of up to 337 km/h.
The project anticipates massive spectator interest: organizers are targeting up to 120,000 fans per day and over 300,000 across the entire race weekend. However, the initiative is still in its early stages — its implementation will require the involvement of a private promoter and resolution of several organizational issues.
As a reminder, the Korean Grand Prix was previously held from 2010 to 2014 at the Korea International Circuit.
