African champion Maeva Nyadjou joins Kansas City Current

The Indomitable Lioness will play in the National Women’s Soccer League for the next three seasons.

Maeva Nyadjou has taken a giant leap forward in her young career. Having emerged as a standout player at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, won by her country, Cameroon, the 19-year-old defender is leaving Cameroon’s professional women’s league, the Guinness Super League, to join the National Women’s Soccer League in the United States.

The Cameroonian international has signed for Kansas City Current for three seasons, until 2029. In doing so, she becomes the first Cameroonian player to leave the domestic league for the American women’s top flight.

During the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, which was held in Morocco this summer, Maeva Nyadjou made a lasting impression with her solid performances. The Cameroonian distinguished herself with a spectacular free-kick against Nigeria in the quarter-finals, which helped the Indomitable Lionesses qualify for the semi-finals.

It was these performances and technical qualities that won over Kansas City Current. Maeva Nyadjou will now put her talents to good use for her new club.
